Sister Edholm -- week 42

Hey!

Lots of exciting things this week!

1) All-Scotland. So good! Elder De Feo came. He talked about something called the Commitment Matrix. He said that we need to make sure that our love and our expectations for our investigators match up and that we aren't to buddy with them and that we aren't too strict with them. We need to be in the 'miracle quadrant' where both are the highest. He had us pray and seek for inspiration and then come up with a plan to help us bring one of our investigators there.

2) Ross got baptized!! It was such a good service. Actually yesterday was probably one of the best church services that I have been too in a long time. We taught young women's. It was only one girl, but we read the story of Moses when he parts the red sea. It was so cool. She had some really good insight into that story. Gospel principles was good as well. One of the Elders gave the lesson and he had a couple of people bear their testimony and it really brought the Spirit. Sacrament was so good as well, we had some spectacular talks, just amazing (lol one of them was me). Ross was baptized right after church and after he was baptised you could see an immediate change in him. I am so happy for him! What a great experience!

Sister Edholm -- week 41

I have learned a lot this week!!

We went on exchanges on Thursday. I went with Sister Peterson, which was so fun because she was in Paisley when I was in Greenock. I love her! It wasn't what we would have liked it to be, they got a flat tire, so we had to go and get that fixed and so we sat at the garage for a good 2 hours. Did some creative finding as we were sitting there though and I asked her loads of questions about Paisley. I am less confused now.

We also got to do some service again this week. No, we didn't baptise anyone this time, instead, we were models lol. This African lady in our ward has a online shop and asked us to help her out. They were grandma clothes and we looked. . . really good. It was fun though. At the end she let us try on some of her traditional African apparel and there is some pictures below. They are great! Also Sadza is delicious.

Elder Massimo De Feo of the seventy came to our stake conference! It was amazing, he is such an inspired man. We were able to go to both the Saturday and the Sunday session. In the Saturday session he talked about how we have too many meetings and sometimes when we go to a meeting we just discuss what we are going to do in the next meeting. lol. He said that once he was in a bishopric and for their bishopric meetings they would all get in a car and pray about someone they could visit and then show up at their door unannounced and he said that sometimes they wouldn't answer their door, but when they did it was amazing because it was an answer to their prayer. In the Sunday session he talked about the story of Jairus in Mark 5. He said that sometimes we lose our faith and think that God has forgotten about us. He likened it to Jairus and how he lost his faith when he was walking with Jesus to heal his daughter and Jesus stopped to see who touched his clothes and then the messenger came to tell him that his daughter had died. Then the people around him told him that it was too late and then Elder De Feo put a lot of emphasis on what Jesus Christ said once he heard "too late." He immediately turns around and in verse 36 he says, "Don't be afraid, only believe." We need to always have faith. I was also reading Jacob 7 this week and in verse 5 he says that his faith cannot be shaken. How can we get our faith that strong?

Sorry this is a long email!!

Have a great week!
Love,
Sister Edholm

Sister Edholm -- week 40

Wow this week has been an interesting one... haha.

On Thursday we were asked to help out with this interfaith day for the primary schools around our area, well actually it wasn't in our area, it was in Pollock's.
We thought that it was going to be talking more about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but we were wrong. It ended up being a Christianity table, which is a pretty broad topic, there are so many branches of Christianity it was hard to represent them all.
Most of the tables had interactive things on them to keep the kids engaged. At our table, we had a priest outfit and a baby doll and water, to represent baptism. The lady that was helping us with the table, helped the kids put on the priest outfit and do the baptism, but then would say, "these ladies do baptism a little differently, ..." and would explain that we do it when we are older and by full immersion. Well, it was all fine and then she dipped out and we were doing the table by ourselves and the kids didn't really want to listen to us, so we ended up doing over 200 Catholic baptisms... apostate? maybe. lol.

We met this really cool guy on Friday, we met with him on Saturday. He is so cool. He is Atheist, but is really open-minded and wants to get to know God better. He really liked the concept of the Holy Ghost and sees himself as a spiritual person!
On our way to teach him though, we ran into this thing called the Orange March. If you don't know what it is, look it up. Pretty much it is Protestants celebrating the fact that they are Protestants and they march around town banging drums. Well. they were blocking where we were meeting our friend, so we had to go all the way around town just to get to him. It ended up being okay. They had fireworks that night, I just imagined it being the 4 July and I was okay.

We are loving it here in Paisley. I am sure that the Elders are probably getting annoyed of us calling them every couple of hours asking where things are... oh well. We are slowly finding our way.

Love you all, have a great week!

Sister Edholm -- week 39

Hello,

So, let me just start by saying this has been a long week.
Last week I told y'all that I was staying in Clondalkin for one more transfer. Well last Tuesday while I was enjoying my birthday, we get a text that says that everyone that doesn't have a Garda card (visa for Ireland) needs to go home and pack immediately. Well as you would be if you were in my shoes, I was a bit confused. But, we did as President Macdonald asked and went home and packed up our lives.
And then.. No word.
The next morning, we get another text that says that we need to stay packed, but that we need to go out and work as usual. So we did and then at around 8pm we get another text that says that every single missionary will be contacted and told where their new moves are. So at 10:15pm we get that call and we found out that both Sister Hood and I are moving back to Scotland. Sister Hood to Dumbarton and me to Paisley.
We prepared to leave and then it gets worse. We get to the bus station on Friday morning and it turns out that we are flying and nobody told us they told us we would take the ferry... So none the less I got stuck in security and had to throw away half of my carry-on.
After an eventful couple of days though we finally made it and were able to shower on Saturday morning.

I love Paisley! I really miss Clondalkin, but I know that there is a reason that I am here. Sister Mckay and I are ready to hit the ground running and get to know everyone. The ward is already great and we love them!!

Have a great week!

I love you
