Elder Edholm -- week 11

It is still really hot here, the first day of spring was last week, so it is only going to get hotter. The little kids here always stare at us, especially on the Micros, the little kids of the families that I know try to talk to me but I understand almost nothing, so I usually just say uhuh or something. My pension (the person who cooks them lunch every day) lives like five streets away from me, so we just walk there. In her family it is just her, her husband, and her son Bruno who is probably 4, he is really cute and always tries to say the prayer on the food. For general conference coming up, we are going to go to the church to watch it, and I think it will be in English for the American missionaries, so that is great! We had some people come to church with us last Sunday, Teresa who has just loved everything we have taught so far, and loved the conference about families on Sunday too. And Richard and his family came to church too, He is a member, but his wife and daughter are not. So that was really exciting!

Elder Edholm -- week 10

Andrew didn't write a letter again this week, but we had a great talk with him. He said he followed a a long conversation this last week pretty well and even contributed to the discussion!  He was pretty pumped about it. He had zone conference this last week. Here is a picture of his zone with the mission president and his wife:

Andrew is on the back row right in the middle.

Elder Edholm -- week 9

The people in Bolivia are super nice! Almost every lesson that we go to the people give us something to eat or drink! We are teaching this family and we invited them to go to church with us, and they went! they are two cousins and their wives and children, so that was awesome! We are also teaching this older lady that works at a bakery that she started with her sister, but she works on Sundays, so we are trying to get her to get Sundays off so she can come to church. She is also super nice and has already read like 150 pages in the Book of Mormon, so we really hope she can come to church with us. Some members that I have met Albero and Iris and their four year old son Bruno. Bruno always closes the door in Albero´s face and then runs away, it is really funny. Some other rock solid members here is the Bueno Family, they know a lot of references so we have been able to find people through them. I love my area, it does take awhile to get places though cause it is just walking or taking the buses (called Micros) I don´t know if I have said that already. We are pretty close to a jungle area, so that is cool. I have really found out that I literally can´t do anything without the Lords help, so I have been relying on him a lot! Sorry for not writing the last two weeks, hope you guys will forgive me.

Elder Edholm -- week 8

Andrew didn't send us an email this week, just a short chat with him. He was at a computer that didn't have a camera so he could see us, but we could only hear him. He is still struggling with the language, but trying to be patient with himself. The ward boundaries he is serving in is really large and more than half of it is not within his area so he hasn't been to very many ward members homes. The area he is in has not had missionaries there for awhile, so they have a lot of work to do to find people. He sent me a screen shot of his area, the red dot is where he is serving.

Elder Edholm -- week 7

Andrew did not give us a letter today because we got to talk to him via Google Hangouts!  He told us a few more things about his area.

  • There are three sets of missionaries in the ward he is serving in.
  • There are so many dogs and chickens in the roads
  • The dogs bite. His companion has been bitten four times in a year. No bites for Andrew yet!
  • They live in a house and pay a woman to cook lunch for them each day. He eats lots of rice and chicken and vegetables.
  • Andrew buys Ramen at the store to eat for dinner nearly every day and the people there tell him not to eat it because it will kill him!
  • He has running water and electricity and his house does not have dirt floors.
  • He misses his family and everyone, but is very positive about the work.
  • He says his Spanish is very bad!
  • Even though it's Spring there it's very hot and he is always sticky.
  • They are teaching and working with some good people, but it's difficult to get them to commit to come to church.
Here is a screenshot I took as we were talking with him. His companion is directly behind him in the white t-shirt.

We told the kids we'd give them $5 for the first person to spot a moose. And the money goes to mom!
